Fire in FlatTops,CO

Postby saddlesore » 08 13, 2020 •  [Post 1]

Notice of fire and closure on south east end of Flat Tops. Anyone contemplating hunting elk off Coffee Pot Road, it is now part of a closed area because of the Grizzly Creek Fire burning along and north of I-70. I-70 is now closed from Gypsum to Glenwood Springs.Since Dotsero is west of Gypsum, you can't get there to turn north along the Colorado River Because of the rugged terrain, this fire will be burning for quite awhile. Zero containment at present.

Thanks for the post SS. This is a pretty good resource/site for active fire information.

That does it! I am not hunting the FlatTops this season. I'm so upset, I am not even going to hunt Colorado this year.

Hunting in smoke really sucks

I was in the smoke from a fire miles away. the smoke line was so thick I couldnt see the elk 250 yards away , I ended up backing out and the elk wertn there in the morning

I am sure IS will be happy about that.

You would not believe the number of emails and request I get each year from people wanting to know about that area
