J Bar H Outfitters,Jeanne Horne. Owner/operator.Unit 12, 2nd Season is OTC.Might be all booked for 2020 at present. To be truthful, If I was nonresident,I would look at other states than Colorado. Any OTC unit is now very very crowded.

For 2020, all 1st season hunts are draw only, then there is a9 day lapse between 1st and 2nd season which will put it later with a greater chance of heavy snows.Bring cold weather and snow gear

Bones, I'd certainly not limit target areas to only CO (as Saddlesore mentioned). Look into Bear Paw Outfitters (Dale Denney). He covers several of the elk/mountain states and I have only heard good things from those who have used their hunting services. Bear Paw is the only outfitter advertising sponsor I have on Wapiti Talk for a very good reason ;).

It should not be too hard to determine if an outfitter runs a good camp and has good success with his clients, but are you up to the task too? I would take a few days to get acclimated to hunting 10,000 - 12,000 foot elevation. I live below 300 feet elevation. I do not get sick at 10,000 feet, but I am tired all the time until I get acclimated. I have not been at 12,000 feet.

I had one archer call me last week for recommendations of where to go in Colorado. I gave him the same advice and also told him to call Indian Summer here.

Non Resident elk license fee for 2020. $670.25 Plus $10 Habitat Stamp

If you put in for a draw license,it will be $9 application fee and you must buy a qualifying small game license which is $82.78.
OTC tags do not require the Qualifying small game license or $9 application fee.You save $91.78

Conditioning is on my mind. I'm 58, not 72. But live in Kansas so altitude leaves me short of breath every time I go to the mountains. Thanks for the advice.

Montana West Outfitters out of Darby Montana. I’m about to go to bed but I’ll give you more info tomorrow. I used to own the outfit so I can answer any questions you might have. See the thread called “Montana Anyone” for now. The owner Paul is the nicest hardest working guy you’ll ever meet. He gets a ton of repeat clients which says a lot. Price is right too.

I was drooling when I saw the bulls coming out of there now. Way bigger than when I owned the outfit. His permit area borders a limited entry unit that only gets 40 tags so it’s like hunting on the edge of a game preserve. Tell him I sent you and you want the royal treatment. He’ll laugh and say sure. But the truth is he gives everyone the royal treatment.

Comanche Wilderness Outfitters. Scott Limmer owner. Depending on type of weapon you may need a preference point. I'm sure he's fully booked for 2020 but may have openings for 2021.
