Where were they 8 weeks ago

Spent friday looking for a cow elk.
Covered lots of miles in the morning by truck, on foot, and with glasses. I never did see a cow elk.
I did see 24 bulls. 5x5 and bigger
I spent most of the afternoon just watching bulls,..

Don't you guys know that the elk have all read the game regulations and know when it is safe to be out and when to stay hidden. I have observed for years how the deer are out everywhere in elk season and vice versa. The same holds true with cow and bull seasons. Like I said, the elk are on top of the situation. They seem to enjoy seeing me come back into the forest, as almost all of them are able to outwit me.
