Buck Of A Lifetime!

Postby ElkNut1 » 11 19, 2012 •  [Post 1]

Yes, this is the Elk Forum, but I am so excited about this huge Muley that I just had to post it here as well as on the Deer Forum, hope you don't mind!

Guys & Gals, I was fortunate enough to take a true Idaho Giant! Paul Jr (BowElkDwn) & I were on this DIY Public Land hunt together when we glassed this guy up. We didn't realize at the time how big he was, I even considered passing him thinking he wasn't that big on this late hunt!!! Ouch!!! I may need my eyes examined! He's over 200" & a monster buck that I am proud to have taken, 28" main-frame & 33" to his stickers! Just look at his mass!!! I'm still in shock over him!!! I couldn't have done it without my Son there, we're a true team!

Holy smokes. I would say that you posted the pics and story in the right place. His antlers are closer to an elk than a deer. ;) Congrats Paul!

First of all Paul,CONGRATULATIONS!!!! Second, you might as well give up trophy mule deer hunting, as you likely will never even see another buck like this during a legal season again. Third, you really do deserve this trophy, as anyone can see the terrain once again looks nasty. Also given the fact that for all the hunters on this forum you have helped to learn to hunt elk, you have given so much. Now you have been rewarded by the deer gods. Congrats once again :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

A couple of weeks or so ago I was razzing Paul on email telling him that he would bag a 6x7 buck, just like his bull this year. He replied back with something like "yea, right"... Counting the brow tines, that sure looks like another 6x7 to me!!! that is the biggest buck I have ever seen...

Thanks a ton for the congrats & kind words! Yes, it is very steep country that's hunted! We like that type of country as it deters most hunters, can't say I blame them! (grin) I hope to be able to do it for a few more years, you never know though as we can break down physically at a moments notice!! I'd do it again in a heart beat though as long as I could!

Tremendous!!!

What a wonderful example of the specie's potential.

Will you get a full shoulder mount? If so, can you promise to post pics of him when you get him back?

Wow what a deer! I need a drool napkin.

Wow Paul... didn't see this thread until it was bumped up.

The mass! I have a big mulie on my bucket list. I'm trying Wyoming while I bank CO points.

No matter where I hunt that one would fit the bill. Very very nice. Congrats!

Don't forget to show us the mount.

LNGBOWFLYER, LOL!!! Yes that is a sweet Muley, no way could either of us ever pass a buck like that once we knew what he was! At a distance it was tough to size him up? We thought maybe 170ish? That was good enough for us! (grin) My son is very patient, he would have waited an hour if need be to make sure I didn't shoot to small a one! (grin) He even threatened to carry my bullets!!! Plus I drew the tag, he didn't have one! (grin) We were fortunate this area is not known for producing bucks like this, oh well it's nice to get lucky once in a while!!

Yes, he's in the process of being mounted as I type!!! I'll be happy to share a photo come Spring some time. Thanks!

Paul I forgot to mention that congrats on a true buck of a lifetime. And a mountain buck at that. They don't come much harder than a mountain buck. How much do you think he weighed in at? Either you are 4 ft 5" or he is part horse. Huge body on him. Again congrats Paul.

Thanks bud. He was a tank for sure, we estimated live wt at 275lb that's just a guess. I am short though, 5'-7 1/2" Ha ha. There are no small 200"+ Muleys! (grin)
