First elk of the year

I got a nice view of 4 bulls last night just before sunset. I went out to my front porch to drink my after dinner coffee and saw these boys about 150 yards away.

They are a great sight to see from the porch. About a week ago I saw about 20 in a field along the highway, so I know there are some left.

I know the young bulls drop later, but thats crazy to see 4 bulls still packing in late april. At least here that would be strange. But i know shed times differ from one region to another. At least they do with deer.

Makes for a super short growing season for this year's antlers.
We still had deer here in ND a couple weeks ago that hadn't dropped yet.

I've got recent rubs on my property where I assume they are simply trying to knock their antlers off.

Here's a long shot of those elk as they started coming in to the pasture.

Saturday and Early Sunday we were in and out of Yellowstone. Most bulls had 3-5 inch numbs, Saw one with 6 inch fronts and was branching
