Colorado Preference Point Question

Hi guys. I can't find the answer on the Colorado website. I was not drawn for a tag last year so I have one Colorado preference point. I am not able to hunt in Colorado in 2017 but I intend to in 2018. Do I need to do something this year to keep my preference point? I know that you lose your pounts in some states if you go a year without applying for a tag. Thanks

Your point is kept on the books for 5 yr if you don't apply of buy a CO big game license. IMO you have a golden opportunity to get another point this year. 2 goes much farther than 1 point in the draw. Just apply for a point only this year. Code EP-999-99-P.

From the brochure:
$40 PREFERENCE POINT FEE. Hunters will
be automatically assessed $40 per species
($30 for resident deer and pronghorn) for a
preference point unless they have purchased
one of the following: an annual fishing,
small-game, resident combination smallgame
and fishing, furbearer or a big-game
license in the previous year, or a current
limited license in the draw for the same species
for which they seek a point.
The point fee is waived for youth, lifetime
license holders, free senior annual fishing
license holders and residents who are in the
military on active duty outside Colorado.

Thanks guys. I guess I'll spend the $40. The area I want to hunt has OTC archery and rifle tags but I might need a boost to get a muzzleloader tag. I want to bring a muzzleloader the next time I go.

You say you might need a "boost" to get a muzzleloader tag - that "boost" may be significant. I know of units that take 2 points to draw archery and almost 10 with a muzzleloader. Get on the Colorado Division of Wildlife and lookup the draw statistics. It will tell you by unit and by hunt how many points it took to draw last year.
