Nice work guys.
Careful on mountain rated tents, they are typically rated for two people fitting in them. There is a difference in comfort rating! haha.
I would consider that a great hunt for the first time out west. Looks like you had a great wallow/water hole sit.

Enjoyed the video. The footage of the bull wallowing and the the shot was awesome!

I'm curious to know now that you guys have probably hashed it over a while, how you might hunt the block land again? What, if anything would you do differently? Not knowing how much area was behind you and I know you mentioned several other hunters in there forcing you to move quick, would it be possible to let those bulls come further up into the timber as opposed to shooting at them in the open? Also wondering if calling from the open area was a reason they seemed to skirt around you guys?

I have hunted a very similar situation in Wyoming where they come up from the open fields. Definitely tough to hike in to only see a couple hundred elk go up the opposite side. Been there. Kudos to you guys for sticking with it.

Video was really good. Enjoyed the video maybe a little to much. Now I have elk on the brain again. Going to start hearing the bugles from Maryland again. It's pretty tough to get all that all film.

Thanks for the feedback guys! As far as what I would do differently if we hunted the block management land again. Really I'm not sure there's much more we could do. The only cover was behind us and only lasted for maybe 150 yrds before it went into private. And these elk were smart. they stay away from the cover as much as they could and when they hit the cover they didn't wast any time getting to private. Also they seemed to come thru at a different spot every morning. But it is possible to kill one, I had my chance I just wasn't on top of the game.

That is a great 2nd post! Thanks for sharing.

Here is what I liked: the nervous grunt at 2:25 was cool, and a great call to learn to use to stop a Bull prior to shooting. That Wallow at 3:45 looks impressive. Was that the same water hole you got your Bull? I was impressed by your energy, and attitude - no doubt why you were successful. The kill shot video was excellent and the arrow was well timed and well placed. I liked seeing your frustration mid hunt as this happens to everyone more often than not, and many guys just give up.

This is what DIY hunting is all about, getting out there on Public land and getting it done despite hardship, setbacks, and competition. It is refreshing to see a couple of young guys in blue jeans and cotton sweatshirts having a blast. Now don't you feel sorry for those guys who only hunt once every 15 years so they have the best unit in the state? I suspect you will be hooked for life on archery Elk hunting.

What needs work? Your calling has room for improvement for sure, but what the heck, you gotta start sometime. This is a great site to learn Elk hunting tactics and calling strategies. Welcome aboard.

Thanks a lot Jim. Yeah the wallow we stumbled across the first day is the same one we killed the elk over. As for my calling yeah it definitely needs work! bugling is hit an miss lol, sometimes I get it sometimes I dont. I really like what I've been hearing about the video. I wanted it to be real. not just for others to watch... but so I can go back an have that reminder, no matter how rough it gets persistence an keeping your wits always pays. An yes I hope every September from now on finds me somewhere in the mountains with a bow an a camera!

Enjoyed your video. Thanks for posting it here. Might not have discovered it on YouTube. Brought back memories of camping w cheap gear, often just in the back of the truck. A lot of my buddies now haul trailers for their camp. I still prefer tenting though.

I thought your strongest attribute was your positive/no quit attitude.
I bet next year's hunt will be even better!
