Rico, CO

Being that it's 20 degrees and snowing here in Wisconsin...looking towards next September. Is anyone familiar with Rico, CO...i.e. dry ice supplies, gas stations, do the take kindly to outsiders, etc? Have our unit nailed down and trying to limit what we need to haul out in the truck.

All services available in Dolores, 27 mi SW of Rico. Not sure if there is even a gas station in Rico anymore. It is sort of a residential suburb of Telluride. Dunton hot springs resort is $$$nice$$$.

Telluride is a good spot to drive into if you've never been there but I would plan on picking your needed items in Montrose. Access will be easier and choices of stores will be better. That's assuming you are coming from that direction. I guess everyone should see Telluride once.

There's an operational gas station in Rico that's actually well stocked as far as gas stations go, along with a few eateries. It's a drive-thu town except for the few hundred locals that live there. The liquor store motto is; we have more beer selection than residents. There a market in both town of mountain village and Dolores which are about equal distance. As said, if you're penny pinching or looking for a large selection of groceries, Montrose and Cortez have full size grocery stores. Cortez will be closer to Rico but depending which way at you're coming from..

We hunted that general area for the last two years and bought our supplies in Cortez, way more selection and better prices. But we came from the SE and had to go through Cortez. Dolores has a limited selection.
