New Member With Question

First, I want to say thank you for all the information that gets posted on this site. I am a long time "lurker" and just joined. I have a question and really would appreciate everyone's feedback.

I have a Colorado elk hunt scheduled with a reputable outfitter for the week of September 16-20, 2017. The outfitter asked if I would be willing to move the hunt up to September 9-13 or back to September 23-27. I am really torn on what week to go. The hunt is on private property. The outfitter has been great with communication but I said I would let him know by first part of this coming week what I wanted to do.

Welcome to the forum OCP. I would ask the outfitter what his success rate in for the different periods and base my decision on that. I actually prefer the earlier time, but if you are wanting to hear screaming bulls, Elknut is very correct.

Why does he want to change your dates? I agree and would stick with those dates. If you absolutely had to change I would pick the last week.

Thank you for replies so far. As for date change, it was the way the bookings worked out and it would work better for the schedule on the outfitter's end. The outfitter just wanted to know if I had the ability to move dates. This is my first elk hunt and want to go when there is the best opportunity. Not sure what to expect by going earlier or later meaning weather, animal movements etc.

He is putting you in a very tough spot. In fact, I think it is unfair of him to ask you that. I would stick with those dates for sure, but then you wonder if he will hold a grudge.

Sorry for the confusion. I was going by the dates you had listed which have already passed.

I emailed the outfitter with some questions and got more of the story why he asked about changing dates. He has my best interest in mind. I am not sure if I have enough posts for a PM yet, but if you PM me I will provide the rest of the story

I would say if you have paid your deposits you are locked in, that's how we work with our clients if they choose dates and pay those are their dates. If I have something come up I'll change my plans for them, if I overbook a week which is nearly impossible for me, then I would ask for the last guy that had booked his situation on moving. And move down the list, but to me as an outfitter I don't try to pursuade people to change dates because I think this is better than the other. That's where the pre negotiations work things out, every year is different. We killed our biggest bull this year on sept 7.
