Decision Time - Elk or Deer first?

Postby t_jones98 » 09 07, 2016 •  [Post 1]

Heading out this weekend for muzzle-loader. I have a deer tag and Dad has an elk. Haven't had much luck scouting early for elk, been very quiet.

Our deer and elk areas are located about an hour and a half away from each other. So considering trying to fill my deer tag first, then concentrate on elk (I have an archery elk tag as well). Which would mean getting the trailer mobile again and hitting the road.

Two days for muleys and then move as the elk rut hopefully starts to heat up?
Thoughts?

I would go for the easier one first. Fill the freezer!

I would let my dad hunt first. I don't know your age so this might not be a consideration, but how many more hunts do you have left with him? Plus, you have that archery elk tag in your pocket. In fact, it might be burning a hole in your pocket! Fill both elk tags!
