Close to herd bull!

I am rereading threw the playbook and in close to herd bull #1 page 59. When it says do a 1 1/2 second whine then turn straight at him and scream a big bull scream. Then be prepared to cut him off.

I am looking for a little clarification should the big bull scream be a advertising bugle or a lip bawl bugle then when you cut him off do a challenge bugle?

In my opinion, after the whiny cow sounds'... I would then turn to the lip bawl bugle, which dictates to the herd bull that you are trying to call a cow of his harem away from him and to you. Once he hears this occurring, he will in all likelihood, scream a challenge bugle at you and will likely be heading in your direction, at which time you can then cut him off with a challenge bugle over the top of him. Another option is after giving him some whiny pleading cow calls, he will likely respond to the cow sounds' alone, at which time you can then scream over the top of him with a challenge bugle, this tactic puts you challenging the herd bull instead of the herd bull challenging you, which I believe increases the probability of him coming to you.

If I know that I am close under 75 yards from a bull with cows, I will only use a challenge bugle short with a lot of emotion. I will not use cow sounds and will only be talking to him telling him I am going to take his cows. If there are more bulls around (satellites) I will not respond to them, I will only answer the herd bull and put as much pressure on him as possible.

When I use cow sounds' in this situation with a herd bull, I am not trying to sound like a new lone cow that has wondered into the area, I use the whiny/distress cow sounds' to try to make the herd bull believe that one of his cows' has drifted too far away from the herd and is now in distress due to this intruder bull trying to round the cow up and take her away. I will do the cow sounds' in the direction of behind me and away from the herd bull and then turn and do a challenge scream right in the direction of the herd bull to further paint the picture that this intruder bull is now between the herd bull and one of his cows'. If you are close enough to the herd bull, you have a good chance that the herd bull will not just round up his cows' and go the other direction but the key is being close enough that the herd bull feels that he has no other choice but to go into defensive action against this intruder bull.
