Raking, rattling or calling around Wallows and water holes..

I hunt around wallows off and on throughout the season, with some success, but I have yet to have any luck calling, raking or rattling around a wallow….just seems to me that when elk come to drink they pretty much get a drink or roll around in the mud and then they are gone…So just wondering what others have seen in while spending time at water holes? I did purchase Swede’s book a couple of years ago, good read but I passed the book on to a friend as I just don’t think the tree stand method is going to work for me, it’s a height thing…anyway couldn’t remember if Swede had said anything or not about calling at wallows/water holes….anyway interested in hearing what other folks have seen or heard….

I hunt water holes more than wallows, but when I hunt them, I set up for an ambush and stay quiet. From what I have read, and heard from more experienced early season hunters than me, its best not to call. If elk think that the wallow is being used by other elk it can deter them from coming in to use it.

I posted a similar post on this topic before and the general consensus back was to the let the water hole/wallow be the attraction and to only call sparingly.
