Post em Up WT Style 2016 - Bugle with Voice-Lip Bawl

Postby WapitiTalk1 » 06 30, 2016 •  [Post 1]

OK, I ran to the shop and did a very quick elk noise for us to practice. This is a bugle with a bit of voice thrown in and lip bawl (more lip bawl than voice as it turned out). Just trying to keep us practicing. Let's hear three bugles from you cats with some voice and lip bawl thrown in. Holy hell, only two months to go! Thanks for playing along. RJ

Trying this with the calls i had on me. A few new ones im trying out. Felt like i was starting to blow them out. Too much pressure for the latex i think.
Two months to go is right! its coming up fast. Practice those calls!

Sounding good RJ, Feel like making a trip to montana to call for me?

Man, from the sounds of it I have some stiff competition here ;)

This is exciting because these are the calls I feel like I can really throw my own emotion into and put my own spin on it. excited to try these out come September.

I am using the Berry Golden Dome.

Nice work on the calling, B.sentman.

I think I need a little more pitch in my lip bawl, get it to a higher tone. What do you guys think?

In my opinion yours do sound lower toned more like a growl. But I also believe mine sometimes get too high pitched. I think somewhere in between might be best.

Maybe one of the experts will chime in for us.

I think you guys all sound great !

Keep in mind we all have different voices so you will all sound a little different. That is a good thing.

RJ great calling there and you have really improved a ton !! Very well done.

Brent I really like your lower sounds and your chuckles are fantastic.....Don't change a thing. You sound awesome !!

Sentman Your high pitch will reach out nicely. Use that high note lipbawl when you are doing some locating. You'll get answer's for sure.

Great calling all of you guys !!

Very nice gentlemen! And thanks Trav for the props (umm, emailing sounds back and forth with you a few years ago may have helped my advanced calling development a bit) 8-). It's a learning process guys so never stop working on improving your calling. These threads have really helped me over the years with guys like Trav (Wapiti River Outdoors), Elknut1, GSElkhunter, Troy (Glacier Country Hunting Calls), etc., etc., chiming in with tips on how to possibly improve what I'm doing.

Thanks, Trav. Great compliment coming from you.
Dont sell yourself short, RJ, these threads you created and helped me with my calling have put me where I am. Great stuff. And I will also second all those guys you listed for calling. Top notch with all the help.
Sentman, I think im going to mix it up a bit to try and get a response searching for elk. Always a good thing to have a variety of tones to throw at them.
Season is coming up quick! Looking forward to a new area im scouting this weekend.

Hey guys! It's getting close to archery season, so I am lurking around the forum again.
Great calling by everyone so far. These calling posts are what made me find this forum, and I have a good time joining in with you. Mine isn't up to par with yours, and I still can't chuckle, but I figured I would try to throw one in there. Keep up the good work, and good luck this upcoming season.

This was really good timing but if you haven't checked out the new Jay Scott Outdoors podcast Real Elk Sounds #2, Bull Elk, then go listen to it. It is an actual recording of multiple Bulls but one in particular that is doing this constant lib bawl bugle. It is definitely lower toned and not emphasizing the high notes at all. Very growly. I think your tone is right on the money! Now I need to go practice :D
