When to expect to receive 2016 Colorado Elk Tag

I just got off the phone with a hunting planner. He told me the mailings were delayed and some were not sent to the post office until last Friday 24th. They will be sent out bulk mail and not to get concerned unless I have not received by July 17th. I ask were they sent by pony express . He just laughed.

I am in GA so I figure the Colorado folks will get theirs first.

I always wondered why people are so concerned about getting their tags so soon? The season doesn't even begin for another couple of months.

I know for me personally i am a crazy planner, almost OCD planner when it comes to my elk hunts.

So I want to have my permit in hand and official ASAP. its not real or official to me until i have that physical permit/piece of paper in my hand. I have been through far to many hiccups and mistakes by Games and Park/Parks and Wildlife etc. across multiple states when it comes to my permits to sit back and trust it will arrive at some point before my trip. the other states I have hunted i have the permit way before July, so thats why I am a bit anxious.

For someone who is a nonresident if something were to happen and a mistake was made that causes me to NOT get my permit and my trip is 2 months out, that is not near enough time for me personally to restructure my entire hunt plan. If I were a resident of Colorado it may not be as big of deal, but still......the way I plan I need that piece of paper in hand....sooner the better. I even will check my drawer every once in a while after I get my permit to make sure its still there.

this is my first time hunting in Colorado and I used the "back door method" to chekc my app status, but it seemed a little clunky/unclear and again....I want that piece of paper to keep me at ease....been planning this trip all year and spend a great deal of money (at least it is a lot to me)

thats just my 2 cents on "why I would be a bit concerned I do not have my Colorado permit yet." And everyone is different of course and has their own opinions.

Does CDW send them out or do they outsource it to an outside company the way they do in PA? If they do, then we have reason to be anxious until we can hold it in our hands.

Haven't received my Elk ES Archery tag either. This is the first year that I have been a bit worried about it because I actually put in for a draw unit and got it- supposedly- its one of those see it to believe it things for me. I did get my Buck tag 2 weeks ago though

I got my elk tag July 5th here in ohio. The 3 other guys going with me all live within a hour drive from me but none of them have their tags yet.

My partner for this year got his yesterday, He lives about 10 miles from me in a different zip code. Maybe the pony express will deliver mine today. LOL

LOL, if this were PA, CPW would have been deluged with phone calls, calls to a state representative, and the hunting forums would be exploding with anti game commission rhetoric. You fellows in CO must be really laid back. But I don't understand why they, CPW, haven't put anything on their website about the delay. Anyway, tomorrow is the day I was told by a rep at CPW that all elk tags should go out. We'll see.

One thing I like about Colorado is that when they say that they are going to send out draw notifications they do. Every time Arkansas game and fish has a drawing they are a week or more late sending out notifications. That's what really aggravates me. I don't care how long it's going to take to get them out just have them out when you say. As far as the tag in hand goes I can be patient as long as I know it's coming.
