Post em Up WT Style 2016 - Cow, Calf, Cow, Calf

For this first one, let's try cow, calf, cow, calf switching back and forth between the two sounds. I'm "more" than rusty as you'll hear. Let's hear some of you cats post up some alternating cow, calf, cow, calf elk sounds. It's all about practice, practice, practice, and receiving some feedback from fellow WT'ers on potential ways to improve our elk noises. Hopefully, these threads will help us all out in our elk assaults this year. Let's start with these and we'll work through a big old bunch of elk sounds prior to Elktember! Let's hear em. RJ

Rory, do you use a mouth reed at times when making those sound? Those sounded like an external reed call. They sounded good!

All mouth reed Paul, Berry sleezy cow reed sir and thanks; I get better as I practice more throughout the spring/summer. I told you guys in the start up thread for these that some of the top notch guys may chime in with some recommendations and there's not many better than Elknut for input!

Rory, very impressive with a mouth reed sir! You had me fooled! I may check out that reed! Don't cut yourself short, those were great sounds & ones to imitate! Thanks1

T.B., are you having trouble opening/listening to the clip on a normal PC? I have trouble on my IPhone but can open them fine on a PC.

Phantom I'm using an I phone......only computer I own. Lol.....I was able to listen to the audio posted by roj ....I'm gonna make an attempt to post my own audio this eve or tomorrow

Roj, for being new to elk reeds your sounds are pretty dang good! I like the fact that you can control the tone variation well with air and tongue pressure. Only thing I would say is that they are pretty high pitched... if you practice dropped your jaw, and tongue, a bit I betcha you'll be able to hit those (what I like to call them) raspy lower end cow elk sounds. Making cow sounds on a reed is kind of like saying hee-haw, or eee-yahhh (the haw or the yahhh are what makes the lower tones)... Only other thing is to make those calf chirps short and sweet. Looking forward to hearing your next go around, I'm practicing also

Try it now. I converted your file to an MP3 vs an M4A. I think it's an Iphone thing to not be able to open and listen to an M4A. Weird.

Hey guys, GREAT THREAD IDEA!
I got in contact with Elknut and started learning to Elk call about 3 months ago. I worked at it pretty religiously (almost every day) for the first two months and still get the reeds out at least 2/3 times per week. I feel that I have started to plateau lately and would really like any and all comments on how you feel I can improve for these sounds.

I am using the bugling Bull "Closer Reed", Let me know what you think.

I thought your cow/calf noises sounded very good. I really enjoy how you get down in the vocal range and produce that raspy cow sound!.

Well, that didn't take long. Received my elk calls yesterday and within 2 hours I had the wife complaining about the noise.

only thing i noticed is you might be dropping your tongue off of the call at the end. Try dropping your jaw, leaving more contact with the latex towards the end if that makes any sense. It might help with the "clucking" sound.

Yes it does make sense and I think I am dropping my tongue I will give it a shot thank you
