Bow hunting Malard-Larkins in Idaho

Postby NorthIDTLH » 05 22, 2016 •  [Post 1]

Has anyone hunted the Malard-Larkins area in Idaho lately? I'm looking specifically for wolf info and how hard it gets hunted during archery season...Thanks!

Spent a bit of time close to that area a few years back (scouting in JUL and a handful of days hunting in SEP). Didn't hear or see any big four legged howlers. The folks I ran in to up there did nothing but talk about how the elk pops have declined over the past 10 years due to several wolf packs that work the area. There used to be a pretty large outfitter that worked the ML and surrounding areas via horse hunting but not any more (just what I heard and the old outfitter camp I found hasn't been used in years). There is quite a bit of hunting pressure from a few pretty large hunting camps (local cats) the farther you get N from the ML area, and, they run the trails (where legal) on dirt bikes which for me is a non starter in an area. Are there elk there? Sure there's a few, but there are many other areas in ID and MT that are much, much better. Just my .O2. RJ
