Moon Phase

Postby wunder6 » 02 19, 2016 •  [Post 1]

I was doing some researching and some say moon phase plays a factor into how active elk are and some do not. I kind of always thought hunting around a full moon wasn't the best choice if you had an option. Thought I would just throw it out there and see what everyone elses opinions were.

See pages 12 and 15 in Elknut's Playbook.

I think that the full moon thought is folks thinking like a whitetail hunter.

I know the damn things keep me up all night during full moon phases.

I have kept track of my last 23 elk killed. I can see no difference in kills due to moon phases. Just go out and hunt. There is probably more of a problems due to over thinking the moon thing than anything else.

I have no idea how moon phase relates to elk behavior. I do know we notched 2 bulls last year during dark moon and this year will be a full moon. I would love to know what to expect different this year if anything.
Thanks

Everything I have read is that they will talk quite a bit on a full moon at night. Good time to pinpoint a bull.

I never stayed home because of the full moon. I think it does effect how much feeding time an elk needs. Especially if they have gone nocturnal such as where I hunt.
It sure makes it nice riding into or out of the hunt area

I too have found no concrete evidence that the moon phase affects anything. I will say that the only time I find it advantages, is when the full moon is along side a frosty morning. Then it seems to be a really vocal morning hunt, but it's likely due more to the chill in the air, rather than the full moon ?

And of course, full moon, half moon, or no moon, we're out there every day of the season, as one never knows what might surprise us today, right ? ...
