How many days were you able to elk hunt this year !

How many days were you able to elk hunt this year?
I only ended up with 4 , last hour Friday nights and those four Saturdays. A new teaching position and the OILT moose tag prevented me from taking any week days off.

Four? That's like only eating one Wonka Bar ... (the young folks probably won't get that one). When does the moose hunt start Dennis?

8 days for me. Had to take one rest day on Day 3. Can't remember ever having more fun! Weather was almost too nice - not a drop of rain, and never dropped below 48 degrees.

I was able to get at least a few hours in the entire co season (aug 29-sept2) on all but a few days. In total I think I did not hunt 4 days during the month. midweek I spent in the back country camping, weekends I slept at home and drove in.

We were able to hunt 7 days this year. Although I didn't fill my tag still had the best elk hunting experiences to date. Look forward for more to come.

I believe it was 22 days? Heard 100's of bugles in that time. Had 1/2 dozen nice herd bulls inside 35 yards during that span. I was at full draw on one at 18 yards & no shot, thick country will do that to you! (grin)

We had the book read to us in 4th grade,..

Moose hunt started August 30 and goes until Nov 23.
I dont feel like I missed much of the elk hunt. I saw elk each Saturday, And a lot of action compared to what goes on in the desert ,..and the moose hunt is a priority this year. We sure havent seen moose like we have in the past. Im giving some of the moose a chance, for next two weeks Ill chase them with my bow,..
I did call in a small 33 inch bull moose the day we pulled elk camp. Wind was perfect for a stalk,300 yards to a ATV trail(up hill of course) but it was 88 degrees. Im using the excuse its been too warm to pack meat
Then last weekend while glassing I ended up watching a nice elk herd bull and his ladies both mornings.
And the opening of waterfowl I took my daughters goose hunting.
Over all,... yes only 4 full Saturdays , But I wont miss any Saturday hunting for a while 8-)

9 days so far for me. Going back out this weekend with the muzzle loader for a hopeful cow. Have seen plenty of elk so far, but many were a mile or 2 away. The rut seemed very weird this year with very little bugling and even less elk interested in coming to my calls. If I could get a bull to react, I could never get him fired up enough, and he would leave with his cows before I could close the distance to him. I need to get better at pin pointing where the bugle is coming from as I had to call multiple times trying to close in on the bull. One encounter, I was headed in the direct opposite direction because the bugle was bouncing off the canyon wall. I think it was the need for the extra bugles that made the bulls gather up their cows and avoid the fight.

I shot my bull on my 4th day of hunting. But I called for my buddies, so I spent a total of about 16 days, not counting 3 evenings after work.

16 days in the field this year. Did a backpack /bivy trip the first week then hunted from the 14th to the 24th with the full crew in base camp. Have been super busy at work since my return home so have not had a spare moment to post pics. on the meat pole. Will catch up with the story of our adventures as soon as I can. Looks like many of you elknuts had a fine season! We did end up giving 3 bulls a ride out of the woods and to the deep freeze.

I hunted 12 days this year, but had 30 available to me. As someone once said, "nothing ruins a good hunt like filling your tag."

10 Full Days, with a half day on either end (Not counting 2.5 days of driving on either side). Still need to get all my pictures squared away and post a write-up, but was a much tougher hunt for me this year (Western MT).

18 days in the Oregon coast range for me and my beautiful girlfriend/hunting partner. We had many close calls, but didn't end up with a bull on the ground. This year was emotionally exhausting for us and I can't quite put my finger on why; I'm going to summarize our season in a journal and maybe once I have it in words, the reason will stand out.

I'll never forget the smile on her face, when she emerged from the reprod one morning, with a picture of an active wallow she found while putting a stalk on a bull that I was interacting with. The bull got away, but you would have never known it for how happy she was!

It's with a heavy heart and great trepidation that I am finally admitting this on here. Zero. I would normally be one of those hell of high water types to the point my marriage is questioned every fall. RJ please don't kick me off yet, let me explain...I was chosen to be a sponsored athlete for the Coeur d'Alene Tri team this year. It has been something I have dreamed about since seeing a Team Hoyt video of a Father packing his adult disabled son through an entire Ironman in a raft, bike attachment and a running stroller. So when I saw this come up I immediately entered with no experience other than running for a couple years. One of the first things my wife said after I was chosen was that I had to choose between the sponsorship and hunting. So with both arms and legs still attached I made the painful decision to not hunt this year. This is a journey I had to do because of my own son Conner who passed away four years ago from a severe form of epilepsy. Loosing a child is something hopefully none of you will ever have to go through. It's got to be one the most hideous experiences life can throw at a parent. So 10 months into this crazy life of training five or six days a week and I'm right on track for Ironman CDA 2016. I will be racing for the Danny Did Foundation that provides education, financial assistance and communication for providers and families dealing with epilepsy about technology, seizure alert dogs, etc... stuff that is saving lives while the medical world struggles with this difficult disease.
It's been a difficult fall, but I made it through September. I did hang a couple cameras and even got to help a friend pack his first archery bull. Sadly there is already some tension about 2016.
"You are just going to train 30+ hours a week, do Ironman August 21st and think your going hunting in September?"
"Yes! Yes I am!"

PS here's a link to the Team Hoyt video, and you've been warned it makes most dads cry like little girls.
