Double Tap?

Postby WapitiTalk1 » 10 04, 2015 •  [Post 1]

Has anybody harvested an elk they had previously captured on trail cam? Just curious.

I've got it done with a few deer. Never an elk though.

I messed up a 21 yards shot on this 5x5 . I got this photo of him and a bunch of times on the trail cams nightly for two weeks at different locations
Ive posted this photo before. I had dogged the herd two different days with all three .
The furthest water tank, to where this photo was taken was about 14 miles. Where I was chasing them and messed the shot was another 7-9 miles perpendicular

I put a couple cams out now & then but rarely ever hunt those same areas. Most my cams aren't far from roads so basically just checking out the clientele! (grin) Maybe someday! (grin)

I wrote up a post about that 21 yard screw up :(
Yes and no.
In 7 years I killed one elk in the desert. But Ive had elk close lots of times. I passed on two cows at 12-15 yards for a 25 yard shot. Ive had cows and calves and a bull with in arms reach while in a blind.
Ive called a bull ito 22 yards with the tall piece of sage behind me was maybe 15 inches high
Ive had dozens and dozens of elk walk on trails past me 40-60 yards. At that time I limited my shots to 22 yards( bad shoulder).
Just not your typical elk hunt.
