Second Season Hunting Colorado

I am going hunting 2nd season up near Steamboat. I am new to elk hunting. I have both a bull and a cow tag. What is elk behavior like second season? Any tips?

find the pocket! I love steamboat and the area. Last year I put on a stalk from about a mile out on a herd, closed the distance to a couple hundred yards when some hikers walked past the herd(which I doubt they saw) and my stalk was over. Being a gun hunter.. if you can find em I bet both tags will get filled fairly quick. though around that time the bulls will likely be off on their own regathering themselves from the rut. Good luck out there.. and worst case scenario.. take a trip to the strawberry hot springs and soak the pains of failure right away!(though the only failed hunt is the one which does not happen!!)

Sweet, Thanks! Where can I expect to find them? Valleys? Dark Timber? Elevation?

I do not know the area very well, so I cant answer those questions for you specifically. BUT in my area, I was finding the elk in the timbers that time of the year. They were more often on the south facing slopes, in the thick stuff. still up high if the snow has been light, it takes a lot of snow to move elk.

If you're going to be driving in on forest roads, bring chains for both axles. You might need them to get out.
