Idaho Fire Restrictions has us Scrambling

Hi everybody. My hunting group has run into a bit of a dilemma. We are fairly new to elk hunting and have for the last 3 years hunted Zone 4 of Northern Idaho. The way it looks we won't be able to hunt there this year as planned because of the fire restrictions. Since we are from Wisconsin scouting a new area wasn't an option this year. We are thinking of trying the Beaverhead or Lemhi regions if we aren't able to hunt are normal area. I was just hoping someone could maybe point us in the right direction as maybe to maybe a decent area. I'm not looking for anyone's honey hole Just some insight would be greatly appreciated.

If you can go north units 2 and 1 are open. Good elk up here I would say unit 1 has the most deep back country and we have had rain?!

Hey guys thanks for the info. We may have come up with an alternative. My buddy knows a guy whose got relation in Montana and owns a fairly good sized ranch that said we could hunt that. So that may be our plan. Doesn't matter where we end up we will enjoy it anywhere. Thanks again guys

I hunt one of the areas you mentioned, a buddy hunts the other.
Like most places get away from the busy roads and intense cattle areas.
Heavy timber and blowdown areas with feed seem to keep most hunters out.

Fish and Game is also telling folks up the CDA river to keep an eye out for a female grizzly the fish and game was nice enough to drop in our laps from Montana. She is hanging out around Kingston and has little fear of humans. She wasn't a problem bear they just felt impressed to spend tax dollars to diversify the gene pool for grizzlies in the area. Gee thanks!

Sounds like what our DNR is doing with the wolves here. There is a reason why years ago ranchers and farmers tried wiping them out.
