New hunting partner / GMU 81 Muzzleloader or Archery

Postby Loweboy » 09 05, 2015 •  [Post 1]

New to the forum. First things first though, my outdoor buddy has retired and moved to South Carolina of all places! :(

That being said here's a quick look at what I do. Work full time for the DoD, live in Black Forest, CO. and get out as much as I can. Fishing takes up a lot of my time between big game seasons. I prefer hunting with more traditional methods. I've had not so great luck bow hunting (compound) for the last few years, so I picked up an inline .50 cal hoping to extend my range a bit. I've been able to find the elk, but closing it in has been tough. I hunt for the meat, the trophy will come in time. I'm not set on any area of the state yet, still bouncing around GMUs looking for an area to start focusing in on.

That being said, I drew 80/81 this year for muzzloader. I just went down there a couple days ago to get eyes on it and liked what I saw, though the hunters I talked to seem to think numbers are down from last year. Even so, I know they're in there and I'm not afraid of a hike. I'm not beyond hiking into the Wilderness area, but I would rather go in with more than myself!

If anyone's interested, please respond.

sorry, unless someone has a last minute back out with their partner, which at this time frame would have to be a pretty serious reason, tag bought and all, the likely hood of someone with your same muzzleloader tag and being solo is pretty small.... ive had my NEW hunting partners locked in since march, technically even earlier.... I hope you stick around and meet a great bunch of guys who you might hunt with next fall!

Yeah, that's the long term goal, was hoping to luck into someone in the same situation. I definitely plan on hanging around as there is much to learn and share here. Here's hoping I can add to the meatpole after this weekend!
