A hello from Boise

Hey everybody! I'm new on the forum and new to elk hunting. I moved to Boise about 5 years ago to attend BSU and for the outdoors opportunities in the area. I've tried deer hunting ever since I got here but haven't had any luck. Still planning on trying that but would like to expand to hunt elk as well. I'm a rifle hunter for now, but teaching myself archery and will hopefully be good enough to archery hunt in the next year or two. Also, thinking about picking up a muzzle loader to expand my seasons a bit.

At this point I'm thinking of hunting the McCall Zone this year. So, I'm doing some reading of old posts and trying to figure out what I'm doing, at least a little bit. haha I'm probably going to be posting some questions. I've already got one that I'll probably post in another thread.

Welcome Ryan, I'm also in Boise, moved here this summer to attend BSU, working on an engineering degree. I hunted the panhandle for 4 years and am headed to Brownlee this season.

There are some good muzzleloader opportunities in some zones. I'm thinking about buying a second tag and going to the Lemhi zone in November for a cow hunt.

Welcome Ryan. First off, I think that is great that you are taking the initiative in deer and elk hunting. It sounds like you are starting out from scratch. I have țalked to so many people that were not brought up with hunting in their childhood and thus never feel like they can now do it on their own. Just have to have the desire and patience. Secondly, there is no better place to be than elknut's camp for learning about elk.
