Welcome to the forum bud, glad to have you on board. Yes, there are elk around Libby but you may want to expand your target circle a bit wider in NW MT. There are better areas. Tell us more. Did you just move there? Are you visiting somebody this fall and plan to hunt there?

my sister lives in Kalispell I live in Chesapeake va planning on hunting the week before thanksgiving with a guide and then spend a few days huntingaround Kalispell with her

Ahh, gotcha. A lot of folks from Kalispell seem to head towards Libby to hunt, mostly for deer if it's the same as when I lived there. Are you hunting elk, deer, or both with the guide? What are you targeting (elk, deer or both) when you head out with your sis? There are elk around Libby in almost any direction but not a ton of them. Little pockets up the Yaak, up Fisher River/Wolf Creek, around Kootenai RES, and in the Cabinet wilderness and surrounding areas. If you like the area you're going with the guide, then perhaps that is a good "general" area to head to with your sis? There's a few guys on here from the Big Sky State that may chime in with some more or send you a PM. I haven't lived there in many years and haven't hunted there in four. Best of luck to you jddog!

Hey JDDOG.. How goes it ?? I live in Columbia Falls, about 10 miles north of Kalispell. I'll be archery hunting only about 35 miles west of Kalispell. I'm not afraid of posting that 'cause it still encompasses a huge area. Not knowing where your guide hunts makes it tougher to give exact expectations.. The one thing I do know is that Nov. 20 - 30, is a great time to be chasing Whitetails..
As far as elk towards the end of November???? I don't have a clue.. Where I hunt, if there is a foot of snow at 6000 ft. the elk tracks are heading down. I just never find them. It's thick forests, steep mountainous country. So as far as elk at that time, for me it's a complete crapshoot. I usually switch to deer hunting right at the last half of the season, for two reasons...
#1. I also love calling big whitetail bucks.......
#2. I don't have a clue where the elk went.. LOL...

When I switch over to deer, I'll usually head north 20-30 miles...

There's sooo much country here that a guy could go north, south, east, or west.. That's just where I've spent a lot of time/years learning the country.. I like being really familiar with where I'm hunting...
