Teach me the ropes of elk hunting?

Postby sasquatch » 05 11, 2015 •  [Post 1]

I know this is a long shot but it cant hurt to try. I am wondering if there's anyone that knows a thing or two about successfully elk hunting that may be willing to take me as a tag along or something to teach me a bit about the sport.

I have made one trip to NM last year to kill a Merriam turkey and after seeing elk everyday i have been dying to hunt them, but thats as far as my experience goes. I just love the idea of hunting a 700lb turkey. I live in south Louisiana and don't have a clue as to where to start. I do a lot of traveling to hunt turkeys and deer and would love to start getting into elk and find that new adventure we all love!

I will have everything i need to be self reliant, would def not be an anchor, but i just don't have a clue about the how toos of elk hunting and would rather not make a out back hunting trip solo, but if need be i guess i will have no other choice.

Or if not, how about a good pointer as to where I may wanna start? The amount of info out there using the search method is way overwhelming for a greenhorn. State/Unit etc

Welcome to "the" elk forum sasquatch. Glad to see you stopped by. There are a ton of folks here that have years of elk hunting experience you can learn from. First and foremost, I would recommend you become an elk knowledge sponge and this is the place to start the process. Read the archived tips, Elknut's tips and clips, and really, just pour through the various threads here. Chime in whenever you wish on the various discussions, asking for clarification on what you don't understand, and, start threads on topics you're interested in. Become an active part of the Elknut forum pack, showing your sincerity to learn about elk language interpretation, tactics, etc., and who knows... one of these elk killers just might invite you out west for a hunt. Again, welcome aboard. RJ

You come out to Idaho before or during the elk season & I'll take you along no problem, I'll teach you the ropes in two days that could carry over into many years of your future elk hunts! You'll know what to look for & when & how to call in short order! Let me know if you can swing it & be in shape enough to cover ground with a 60 year old! (grin)

Now there is an offer you should NOT pass up!!! Is Paul up to something, inviting someone named Sasquatch to Idaho?
Elknut 1 may possibly one of those Bigfoot hunters as well as an elk killing machine. Watch your back Sasquatch(grin), but learn all you can.
