Mouth Reed suggestions?

Postby Toby » 05 08, 2015 •  [Post 1]

I usually use Primos reeds with the little tab, singles mostly. Not the domed ones, I think they are palat plates.

So, I'm looking to try something similar, I need the little tab that comes up to the roof of my mouth, can't use the plane ones.

Any suggestions?

Elk Palate Plate Diaphragm - Bugling Bull Game Calls.
I believe Elk Nut has some in his store.

EDIT: I was under the impression you were looking for something similar with the palate plate design, like you described.

I really like the Wapiti River Outdoors calls. My favorite is The Reaper and it is a domed reed call. It is so easy to use and I never get that irritating bad sound coming out of it. Maybe Travis will join in this discussion, he is a sponsor here and his info is up above.

Toby, I used to be exactly where you are at now. I thought the only call to buy was the Primos Palate Plate diaphragms. My preference was for the red one.
Try Wapiti River Outdoors, Reaper and/or Glacier Country Calls, Orange Enrager. It is easy to make great calls with either of these. I have not tried a Carlton call for years now, but in the past they did not work for me. I am starting to wonder if they are not all getting significantly better than they used to be. Good Luck

Hi Toby,

I am not familiar with the reed from Primos that you like but we do have a few new reeds out that can help you for sure. Our Reaper is a regular sized frame with a single latex that is very easy to make cow and bull sounds with. The Reaper has a short dome positioned over top the latex that will help you get the tones you are looking for and our tape has cuts in it to also help with positioning and sealing of the tape. You no longer need to cut the tape to make the reed fit as our do it automatically.

If you have a smaller pallet then we have another domed reed called The Phantom and that one is the little brother to the Reaper. It's on a smaller frame and is also a single latex reed.

We also have our Black Widow cow reed that is also domed or non domed reeds. All our domed reeds were debuted at the worlds this year and all performed flawless. They simply are hard to make any bad sounds with as they are that easy to blow !!

Give them a try and you'll be glad you did.

Hi Travis, I was looking at your web page and i didn't see the reaper call on your page. I'd like to try one as i am looking for a good reed to start. Is it under a different name on your web page, let me know your preferred way to order one, i would like to get one and try it out. I'm new to mouth calls and i'm just getting started.

Yes I have not yet had a chance to get it loaded up on our website. The best way is to send me an email with your contact info including your phone number and I can give you a call. I am currently in Disneyland and will be home on Thursday.

You can also call direct at 780-876-6170 to place an order.

Thanks again

See the store for this website!! Cannot beat Yellow Mamma and the Closer is good too. Both will not fail you right out of the package. The other one I loved was the green terminator.
Paul - what ever happened to that one? thanks

The Terminator has been gone for several years now! It was replaced with Challenge Reed! It's my sons favorite one!

Paul - I may have remembered that wrong. Wasn't the green one the "tormentor"? Is that still available? I will check out the challenger regardless. Thanks.
