Elknut forum - what's the deal

I frequent many forums; I don't post a lot but I do spend a fair amount of time keeping up with that latest threads. Anyhow, some forums are worse than others, but I've been noticing on some of the more popular forums, there is a lot of arguing, belittling, name calling, etc. I don't see that here. I'm sure there's the occasional disagreement here too, but I think that's ok as long as it's respectful.
I enjoy logging on to this forum and reading the post from fellow members who like discussing elk hunting in general, without post after post of unnecessary drama. Just wanted to say thanks and glad I can be a part of a great forum. Keep it up!

Good observation, great to know you can come here and discuss and learn. That bickering gets pretty old on some of the other forums.

I'm glad you noticed and glad you mentioned that elk.addict. From day 1 we talked about that very thing. We vowed to have a bully free, negativity free place where everyone could feel comfortable to participate. To be honest we thought it was going to be an uphill battle at times. The internet can be brutal as I'm sure you know.

I think the thing that got us started was just the sincerity and openness of the original members. Then came that fact that our new members started chiming in and lurkers saw that it was safe to stand up without fear of taking a bullet. That went on for some time until we got to where we are now which is the point where people realize that this is not the place for that kind of behavior. To blatantly jump on someone for their views even though your opinion different isn't the norm so to do that would make the person stick out like a sore thumb. That won't be tolerated. And if it did happen there was a good chance someone else was going to speak up for you, such as me with my big mouth, and the bully wouldn't be here very long. It might sound funny but it has almost become like a church or library where anyone with some common sense and decency doesn't have to be told how to act. We no longer need a sign at the door telling people how to behave. We have a reputation as being a civilized place to share your thoughts.

I can remember days where I would message Paul and say wow man... it's working! I can't believe we are pulling it off! But we did. I for one am damn proud of that. So now what we have is an atmosphere where there is mutual respect everywhere you look. A place where new members don't have to feel awkward about asking questions no matter how simple they might be. Questions that would likely result in getting laughed at or bashed on most other forums.

I'll can honestly say that beginners are the people I enjoy having here the most. They appreciate this place. They are eager to learn and appreciative of what the Elknut Forums has to offer. And so in the end what we get as a result of that aren't just members, they are friends. I know the names of about every member on here. I have an idea of when they showed up here, how much experience they have, and what there plans are this year. I even know a few things about their personal lives. Think about that a minute. It's a beautiful thing I tell ya!

So for all of you lurkers out there, and I know from our webtracker that there are THOUSANDS of you, I hope some day you'll decide to register here and become a part of our family tree.

Man O' Man! How true this topic is....I can't tell you how dismayed I get when I see Drama, in-fighting on " other " forums.
Hunters / Trappers can be their own worst enemy at times.
But will say, this maybe not the biggest forum, but sure is the Best with very helpful members...

Great comments guys! It's good to see that there can be a Forum with a ton of dedicated hunters so willing to share their findings & hard earned info with others without the "drama" -- It's about Passing It On not about who can pound their chest the loudest! I'm sure most here have no issues with healthy debates & I actually encourage it when it's appropriate. Heck, we're not robots we're just ordinary folks with a passion, we love talking about & sharing it with others so they too can enjoy the outdoors as we have for so many years. Most folks do not live in Elk Country so they rely on hunters like ourselves that do for info that may help them on their future hunts. Bottom line is we should show respect for ones views even when they differ from ours, after all there's more than one way to skin an elk! (cat) (grin) We are all very fortunate to have a ton of givers here, I know I certainly appreciate it! Thanks!

I recently joined after lurking for awhile and I can honestly tell you that I wouldn't have joined if I had gotten a sniff of rude behavior. About the only thing that smells around this place is socks after a hard days hunt!

However, I have a feeling I am going to test that resolve as I ask more and more stupid questions leading up to my hunt this year.

I also think the bigger you get, the harder that is to control. I know of a massive site that rhymes with lampwire that has a ton of what you describe. I also know of a pretty nice site that I cannot come up with a rhyme for (but the owner is on TV) that has a moderate amount of people that has a little bit of that but the owner does a pretty darn good job of keeping tight reins. I enjoy that site a lot. And since I have been here, I have enjoyed this site a lot as well. I do feel a little bad that I haven't been able to contribute very much so far. Nice job boys!

Im so wore out from bickering on other forums that I dont have any energy to do it here Seriously, I think one of the reasons you dont see it here is there is no talk about politics, nothing will get people throwing barbs at one another like politics. Another reason is the limited number of members, this forum is a real tight group of hunters here for knowledge or other aspects of the hunt. I belong to 6 other message boards, this is by far the most civil, a refreshing change from the other boards. You want to see a freak show, head over to 24hour, wow, that place is down right crazy

The respect and reasonableness is the main reason that I recently registered and started posting on this forum. I have appreciated the wealth of information that can be found here, but this is the only forum that I am an actual member of due to not having the desire to deal craziness that you find at a lot of other places. So to Paul and the other Moderaters - thank you. You turned a long time lurker into someone that will at least make a peep from time to time

Ths is the best forum ive been on where hunters are willing to help other hunters on just about anything and dont down grade you on how little you know. I was hesitant to join because i knew i wouldnt be much help to anyones questions. But everyone on here has helped me understand every question ive posted and not made me feel stupid for asking them. Thanks to all y'all for a great site to be apart of!!

Amen, love this group. There is a completely different feel with all the knowledge passed around instead of all the pissing contests. Plus one for a big thank you to everyone especially the moderators!

this is something i hadn't really thought about or realized until it was mentioned.... this forum truly is "hunters helping hunters" without all the negativity and BS found on other forums. on "other" forums i just skip over the BS and read informative posts, but that is not necessary here to skip over any posts. most all posts on here have something that i can learn from. some bit of info that i need to better myself as a hunter and a person. thank you all for allowing me to be a part of this great forum!!!

Great informative forum, being from Arkansas I need all the elk help I can get!!! lol Actually i have been decently successful and have used elknuts info and products for years. I do like bowsite also. Great guys on this forum.
