Utah OTC Archery Elk Hunt

Fellas,

I'm strongly considering hunting the Uinta Mountains in Utah and was wondering who has hunted this area. I like to hunt alone, but would prefer to have someone with me since this would be a whole new area of terrain for me.

Did it around 2000 for a few years. Great country, decent amount of animals for otc. The area we were in got a lot of bear hunters running hounds. It was one group, but they brought everyone they knew and every dog they could find. Biggest issue is the season dates are SO early it's spot and stalk, or sitting water all but the very last few days most years.

Thanks for the feedback. Yeah, with the season typically starting early, I can see how it could make for some warm hunting. I have read that in the early part of September you can get into the bugling bulls in the backcountry, which is where I plan on hunting.

I hunt the North side a bunch the south side does see more pressure and possibly has more elk. North side can be dependent on the Wyoming late hunt and the snow level as to where the elk winter. I wouldn't get your hopes to high for bulging be ready for the silent treatment except when it's dark. Few places in Utah are open bull so expect pressured animals. I actually prefer earlier before everyone's been out and at all costs avoid labor day weekend lol

I would also consider hunting the Zion unit on the edge of the panguitch lake unit. Map the public land out.
