Appropriate Distance to Hunt Away from Outfitter Camp

What are your opinions on the distance you should be hunting away from outfitter camps or private ranches that offer guided hunts? My guess is about two miles on average, but I know it can vary greatly depending on the particular outfitter.

Do you mean for your own good or as a courtesy? I'd say a mile is plenty but that definitely depends on the terrain. A mile as the crow flies can be a lot in steeper country. In areas with multiple big drainages one drainage over is sufficient.

Mostly for my own good so that I can be away from the effects of their hunting but also as a courtesy.

I think it depends. I know one of the outfitters that guides near where I hunt. I know which areas he usually hunts, but I know if he has a hard time he goes out to other areas. As a courtesy, I am probably 3/4 mile on one side, and up to a mile on the other side, and then the area in back of his camp, I don't go in. I also know that he gets most stuff within a 1/2 mile of camp, but sometimes goes further and then I just stay out of those areas. Some of the areas around his camp that are close, he is ok with someone hunting because they drive them back his way and the area is too steep for his clients which are mostly on horseback or within 1/2 mile of camp.

I move because of how I prefer fewer people and fewer hunters
My Father in law being the nice guy he was put a young fellow from California on two nice bucks two years in a row. Third and forth year he didn't see him.
The fifth year he was a guide in Idaho And put his camps in the meadows he was hunting for the last 30 years
The area we elk hunt in Montana the nearly the same thing, An old timer told a young new packer how he liked the camp at the mouth of the opening of a canyon for the fantastic view, and he could hunt from camp. The next year the young man was his own outfitter, and even used the old mans tent poles
I judge more by the clients. Some want company, and I may camp with them and have even hunted with them.

I ran into some fellows ice fishing, then during the rifle deer hunt I found out I put my camp up in the dark 300 yards away,.. I told them I would move. After some discussion we hunted different areas so I was good
