so i'm asking which would be the way to go next year...

keep in mind i might not do any of these two but....

friend wants me to go in with him on the Starkey forest (if he draws... has 5 or 6 points i think)
but was also told by family members that instead of that i should look at the Chesnimus unit. i kinda like this better as it is not the first week of the season like the starkey unit would be.

just a thought..... what does the elk heard think?? thanks.

Choose the one that fits your available time & your liking! I've not hunted those areas but I'd choose one & put my heart into it & use methods that would give me the best odds for the pressure received by hunters & timing of the rut/hunt! An elks mood & desires are different Sept 1st as opposed to Sept 15th, choose a time frame & bone up on your best style of hunting that area!

I would hit chesnimus. Look up odfw Hunter stats, animal stats, success ratios, etc. Do an internet search on the strakey Forrest and many opinions will come up over several different forums.

I think in the end Chesnimus will still be better, but that is just my opinion.

thanks guys, i was really leaning towards Chesnimus anyway if i pick that route. i just need to find a spot and stick with it, seems like i move every 3-4 years becuase i either have 0 success or get tired of all the people.

now to start doing some research.... hahaha seems like i was just doing this for a couple months non stop!!

Forgot about the timing of the Starkey hunt. Opening weekend usually means very little bugling activity. Plus that fact that the Starkey bulls usually do not respond well to calls. The Chesnim hunt has bugling from the middle of the month till the season closes. Probably more of a tree stand hunt in Starkey. Steeper and deeper in Chesnim.

thanks all for info... well i got 10 months to figure it out! thank goodness for google earth /acme mapper!! these will help me narrow it down a little before i go investigate....
