I started freezing single serving entrees a few weeks ago in quart size freezer bags so I can boil them for a quick, no mess meal. We brought some while scouting and they were awesome! I have taco meat, lasagna, spaghetti, chicken casserole, pot roast with potatoes and baby carrots.

Plop them in boiling water, eat, burn bag, avoid toxic fumes, done.

Of course, this is for base camps...not backpacking.

I made chicken and noodles last night, elk stew tonight, spaghetti will be made over the weekend. For the daily stuff in a pack: cheese and bologna wrapped in a tortilla and fruit snacks, carrot sticks or an apple and a Capri Sun.

Jerky! Home base for us is a wall tent, we each take a turn cooking, while two of us bivy out quite a bit. Food we want with us is always there. Now one thing that has absolutely has to be there, is fresh caught Salmon from the Sacramento River, I cook it up in my portable oven, and then I can get Heartwood to go call for me, anywhere I want.

Everything in the pics are my staple foods that I take when I camp and hunt, Everything is drying out from last nights down-pour on our fishing trip. Generally there is a bigger selection of canned soups

I bring along fresh fruit and veggies often stuff from our fruit trees, apples, plums, prunes and pears, Stuff from the garden but mostly tomatoes
I make egg sandwiches: mixed with peppers and onion, Mayo on good bread,or bagels, Sometimes fresh onion, zucchini, tomatoes or cheese on the sandwich. My daughters cook and bake so often I end up with fresh chocolate chip cookies, banana bread, or brownies.

I often do different flavors of sardines , Uncle Bens rice, different brands of canned fruit, fruit cups, soups, squeeze fruit and crackers
Most of my food I open the can, the ziplock or container and eat it, I sometimes take a stove and warm soups or some of the better dry noodle dinners( I dont do Top Ramen)
I think the only thing on my typical camp food missing is the fruit drinks in Mylar, Mt Dew or Rockstars, and sometimes I snag a candybar,or cheese stix
The individual foods go into the pack the canned foods stay in camp

When the temps are cold; like ice fishing or winter camps instant chocolate is added. I like to take Stephans flavored chocolate and add powdered milk
Over all not much beats a good apple during or after the hunt. I have some form or copy of Honey crisp,.. best eating apple out there ;)

EDIt OOOpppss not in the pic but I eat a lot of different oatmeal bars and on colder trips I take oatmeal for the morning

I do as above, I pre-make alot of my food, but I wrap almost all of what I make in soft shell tortilla's and freeze, that way I don't need silverware, just boil/microwave/heat up on stove and you have hot eat's..... good stuff, I wrap breakfast and dinner, lunch I have usually ham/peanut butter/toast or bread, sometimes bacon or turkey in place of ham,

Ive only been to one base camp, and I remember making and freezing 'meals' in a freezer ziploc, and just plopping it in boiling water, and voila,,,,,hot meal....Then, Ive been reading that there may be better bags to freeze and boil in???? any thoughts on that...Im contemplating freezing in the ziploc, then vaccumm sealing that bag, kind of double bagging......Foods I like though are chicken catcatorrie (chicken breasts in tomato sauce with onions and peppers) and serve over boil in bag rice. Stew over same kind of rice, and hamburger gravy over instant mashed potatoes. Also do chicken chili and chicken stir fry. Anything saucy to serve over rice or instant mashers.....and of course all the above mentioned snacks....

It's true, id hike anywhere that Twinkieman wants to go for a fresh Chinook salmon and i would lay claim to the leftovers as well. Salmon is the only food i like more than elk. It doesn't get any better than that for me. I often bring some smoked salmon and elk jerkey when bivy hunting.

Not sure what shepherd's pies are, but they might be something like what we call pasties, a local creation. It is a combination of pork sausage and hamburger (usually venison for us) mixed with potatoes, carrots, onions, and garlic, baked in a buttery crust. We bake these, freeze, and then wrap individually in tinfoil. After a late night just toss on the fire to heat through. This has sustained us for weeks. Of course, that is at base camp where we have a [pull behind trailer with a built in cooler.
Despite the weight, I like to throw a can of peaches or pears in heavy syrup into my pack for a full day hike. Granola or Powerbars are a must for me.

Chorizo pignblankets frozen for lunchtime, jerky and assorted bars for snacks. The Mrs. makes zucchini or banana bread for breakfast. For supper she does various meals that don't take long to heat up. I'm a blessed man.

I have the luxury of coming back to camp at night so I haven't tried the freeze dried/ mountain house meals.

I premake this before the trip, and put it in the Zip-lock quart size bags. I take 1-1/2 cups of granola, 1 tbsp of brown sugar, 1 scoop of protein powder, 1 cup of Carnation instant dry (dehydrated milk), and 1 small box of raisins, and seal it up. Then each morning, I heat up 2 cups of water, and use 1 cup for a cup of coffee, and the other cup to dump into my "cereal". It is warm and has very good flavor, and loaded with calories. Its a great way to start the day, and I actually look forward to eating it. Make sure and use the freezer vacuum bags though, the regular Zip-locks don't hold up to boiling water that well.
Also, about 2 ounces of venison jerky each day is a must have for me, my favorite mid-day snack, and it helps to keep me motivated, knowing that more jerky could be just over in the next drainage!

At our basecamps we always have a deep freezer in the trailer, so we take plenty of frozen meals. All of our wives make 1 or 2 meals to send with us. Chicken Chili, a roast with potatos and carrots, lasagna, ect. Once we are in camp we just leave the freezer closed and it stays cold all week. We usually leave the frozen foods on the bottom, and use the top as a refridgerator for the milk and eggs. At the end of the trip when all of the food is gone, we have plenty of room when we pick up the our meat at the processor before he head home.

Usually after someone has filled their tag, they stay in camp and cook. Its nice having a hot breakfast if you come back in the morning, or dinner ready at the end of the day.

During the day on the mountain I take granola bars in my pack, and sometimes a sandwich.
