You Know your ready when???

Postby under H2O hunter » 08 25, 2014 •  [Post 1]

You know your ready when? For me it was yesterday when I went to the outdoor archery range. I started off cold, no warm up shots, no stretching, nothing. I did 20 step ups on a bench as quickly as I could to get my heart rate up and pumping. I then ran over to my bow grabbed it and fired three arrows as quickly as I could at 50 yards. Now I don't have a 50 yard pin. I float my 50 between my 40 and 60 yard pins. I then repeated this process at 60 yards. Then repeated this process at 40 yards but at the 40 yard target I decided to kneel down and lean forward like I was shooting around a tree. Here are my results. I left after firing 9 arrows, headed home and started packing up the truck and trailers.

I know i'm ready when I have an elk in the cooler. I am prepared to come home without an elk, which means I wasn't ready. When everything comes together and I am processing my first elk...it meant I was ready.

I've driven my wife crazy enough that she can't wait for the season to start.

I know I'm ready when there's not one thing I haven't prepared for that I CAN prepare for. Gear is purchased, and packed. Bow is dialed in, trail cams have been pulled, plans have been made on where I'm hunting. Everything is in place!

I'm with you ;) I get into this mode about now where I wake up around 2:30 and can't get back to sleep. At "1:30" this morning, I was screwing around looking at CALTOPO at my WA hunt area. I'll be glad when I get back "out there" where I experience real tiredness and sleep at night. Nice shooting BTW H20... you're ready 8-)

I'll know I'm ready when I'm looking at my jobsite in the rear view mirror this Thursday :)

......when this big Pile of 'stuff' in my lounge starts to sort itself into a couple of duffles and packs. And all my meals are frozen. Only 2 more to go......I leave in exactly one week. One more short business trip and then just finish up the packing and then go through my lists one more time...ok,,,,,maybe two more times. I'll be ready by Saturday!! Nice shooting

When I can run up five flights of stairs carrying 40# of blueprints in my arms, walk in a meeting and no one notice that I just ran 5 flights of stairs with 40# of blueprints in my arms.

For hunting, I've been ready for some time. Bow tuned, arrows flying well, broadheads sharp, camp and equipment packed and waiting to load up.

As far as everything I'm leaving behind, however, I'm almost NEVER ready!! Have to make sure my hiney's covered at work, pantry and fridge are stocked, family laundry's done, lunches made, bills are paid thru end of season, and make sure my husband and parents are on the same page in terms of who's responsible for kiddo on which days. I'll have no cell reception after I'm gone, so getting all that squared away, more than getting ready for the hunt itself, means I'm ready. And in desperate need of some wilderness therapy!
