Weather in Colorado

In the past, I have heard that the rainfall and such has hurt or helped the elk hunting. Locals said too much rain made everything green everywhere therefore made elk hunting harder. On the flip side, a drier year made elk concentrated in certain areas. With that being said, how has the weather been this year in Colorado? And what is your opinion on weather and elk hunting?

To answer your question. This is been a very cool year with lots of rain. I suspect that the elk hunting is going to be awesome this year. The elk are bugling earlier, grass is abundant, and with spring and early summer being as wet as it was I suspect the antler growth is going to be awesome this year and you'll see more monster photos this season.

A CPW biologist told me that the west slope of the Sangre De Cristos has excellent elk forage growth due to the wet, cool summer. That same weather pattern has been in place for the central and southern regions of the state's mountains. Unsure RE North Park, Grand Mesa/Uncompahgre, and south through Durango/Cortez. I was @ 11K elev above Fairplay last weekend, the understory is more than knee deep in aspen groves. This pic is of the only aspen I saw that is showing any sign of turning, so that signal of fall is later this year than usual. The roads have puddles, the creeks and ponds are full. It rains almost every afternoon in the central mountains. James, how is that high bugle note coming?

Durango has been fairly cool and wet compared to the last few years. I've been out scouting and it is definitely wet all over. It's super green, in fact when I look at the meadows the elk are eating in even I get hungry

Hopefully this year I'll be able to stop the elk from running away with some useful tips I've been picking up from the DVDs.
