Calling in cow elk

I'm archery hunting elk and the tag is for cow or bull so realistically I have a better chance at a cow. So what are some calls to call in cows?

Welcome to the board. You're in luck, there is a threat on the front page asking folks what two top cow calls they use. Of course, some are used to get the bulls attention. I'm not an authority on calling bull or cow thought i feel accomplished enough to get the job done. So i'd rather pass on any comment.

I use the yellow mellow diaphgram. Excellent. And i have a couple of others to mix it up.

Welcome to "the" elk hunting forum Jordan. Glad to have you on board. What time of the season will you be bow hunting for elk this year? "Calling in" is a relative term as a good portion of successfull archery elk hunters don't set out to call in elk. They head into the woods to locate vocal elk either sounding off on their own, or, answering their hunter calls and from that point, plan a strategy using terrain, cover, and most importantly, the prevailing thermals/wind to get real close to the target elk. From that "real close to the elk" position, they either try to let things develop naturally (have an elk walk by their position in one or more of the available shooting lanes they've scoped out), or, use some manner of advertising/calling to get one of the big galoots to dislodge from the group come in to their setup. Soo, what are some calls to use to call in cows? Kind of depends. If you're just cold calling at spot X, then some normal herd talk (cow/calf) would be a start. You may wish to mix in some stomping, brush raking, and/or even a moderate bull scream. You never know what may come in when you cold call . Heck, you can shoot a bull in your area also; you never know what you may end up tagging.

I just replied to this Question on another thread.... Regarding what cow calls to use. I also said what call to use to bring in a cow.
Thanks Swede and flystraight, The Glacier Country Hunting Calls Orange Enrager is a very good choice , but the Sweet Temptation single reed might even be better choice for just cow sounds. It is currently being used by 5 State Champions, 2 Rmef World Champions,(Those are ones I know about) and countless Hunters that know about it. Also the High Heel Hottie is a fantastic bite call that, usually takes less than 3 minutes to learn how to make fantastic realistic cow calls.

Has anyone seen the Eastmans Hunting Journal July/Aug Special elk issue. 5 different in that magazine used Glacier Country Hunting Calls to call in and Take big Bull Elk. Tammy Munis has taken Two 380 plus bulls! Look for glaciercountryhuntingcalls.com in the next issue of Eastmans Hunting Journal.
I only tell you this info because I think some of you are missing out!

While I was typing this I got a pic sent to my phone from a former Youth World Champion caller with a picture of a cow taken on a recent early cow hunt in Oregon 2014. Apparently he was using Glacier Country Hunting Calls. Not sure if he shot the elk or if he just called it in. His text says he will call me in a bit.

I gotcha buddy. Just saying don't limit yourself to just trying to call a cow in from a static location. Since bulls are legal tender during your hunt, and, they'll be running around a bit looking for a date that time of the season, you may be able to up the anty a bit by expanding your plan. I see Troy from GCHC chimed in on your thread. You can't go wrong with his reeds. I've tried several out and they are well constructed and sound great! If you go to his website, he has some exceptional demo vids.
