I hate pretty sunsets

My daughters have really gotten into taking sunset pictures on the evenings where the sunset is "pretty" and have gotten some neat pictures. The last two evenings have been exceptional with the fires on the Snake River Plain. One end is burning the other end at Rexburg is flooding

35,000 acres in two days in one fire. While it may be desert, there goes some wide open elk country
It is expected to be under control by Friday

I saw on the news this am about the fires AND flooding going on in your neck of the woods....

Monday at noon it was 96 degrees,
A few hours later we had a nice cloud cover so I scrambled moving fence, the fist bolt of lightning I headed for the house. We had a short heavy cloud burst here, an hour later I could see smoke in the sky from fires further west. Kind of tough to fight a desert burn in 50 mph winds
My oldest just graduated from BYUI, she had friends sending some cool pics and video of the rain from Rexburg

I hunted part of an area in the past that has burned. Grasslands come back better or the BLM reseeds with a fire/drought tolerant grasses.
I spoke with a biologist over the area that was burned, unfortunately he said some of the areas will need 50-100 years for the "oldgrowth" sagebrush to comeback,
sagebrush has come back and in some places it is 18 inches tall in two years, He said told me 20 year old 4 foot sage still doesnt provide the habitat as 70 year old sage

All I can say is you need to keep your fires and floods over in your hunting area. I don't want either. I have an abundance of cattle to deal with. They are enough trouble.

Stinks to have your hunting area burn but it is nature's management tool. The forest and animals both would be far better off over the long term if they let them burn.

Just plain stinks today
Visibility is less than 10 miles, I cant see the nearest butte from home. Yesterday I couldnt see the foothills of the Bannock Mts less than 15 miles away

Just remember what happened to yellowstone after the big fires in 88 elk number exploaded over the next few years...atleast till '95 but that's another thread.
