Colorado Elk Hunters

Hey everyone, I moved to Colorado about 2 years ago when I got out of the Marine Corps. I really want to get an elk to fill the freezer as well as just want to go hunting. The problem is i've never been hunting for anything but birds and don't know the first thing about big game. I'm looking for any person or group who would let me come out with them to an OTC area. I have no problem contributing in any way I can. I have a rifle and know how to shoot but need some guidance. Thanks everyone.

Where in Colorado, and what type of hunting? I'm sure there is someone close to you that wouldn't have a problem lending a service man a hand.

Thanks for Ur service. I am sure U will find sum one. If I was a resident I would be glad to help...... If not just pick a area that mite be close to home. And have at it. Keep the wind in Ur face...

Are you interested in bow hunting? If so I would be happy to have you in my camp. I have two large outfitters tent and some of the guys in our group are former USMC and Army special forces so you would fit right in. If bowhunting doesn't suit you I would be fine with you tagging along to learn the area and you could come back during 2 or 3 season.

You should expect to see an average of 20 to 50 elk per day with more animals entering our property on a daily basis during the hunting season. The average bull taken is a 5 point with some 6 points harvested. Elkhorn offers a unique hunting experience with elevations range from 6,500 to 10,000 ft. above sea level allowing migrating Elk to never leave the property.

Ummmm...I should hunt there.

H20- I have a bow and am a pretty good shot with it, the problem is i don't want to ask for 2 hunting seasons off work, and I have a feeling rifle hunting would be an easier first hunt than archery. But I will definitely hit you up on that offer in the future. In the mean time, if you plan on doing any weekend turkey hunting this fall I would be up for that.

sorry matt, we are hunting elk with a stick and bow and also in Idaho, so it would be non resident fees for you also...

I will be hunting turkeys over in Nebraska in the fall. So if you are up for that I am game. I just don't have any spots to hunt turkeys here in colorado but I would love to maybe find some. So please do stay in touch. As far as rifle over archery for elk goes, I do hunt both archery and rifle in my unit every year. Usually 1st rifle season which of course is by draw only. We have been very successful the past 5 seasons. That being said. I do have some spots I could share with you in units 161,171,and 14 depending on which season you choose. I called this bull in for one of my USMC buddies last season. His first elk ever. His 2nd year hunting with me. He would of taken one his first season however we let to many younger bulls pass hoping for a mature bull.
