Hello everyone. Just signed up and thought I would drop you a line and introduce myself. I live in Saskatchewan Canada. Been a big fan of Elknut for a few years now. Came across his videos on youtube and it didn't take long before I started putting elk in the freezer. Thanks Paul you have seriously changed the way I hunt and your teaching definitely works!! I practice everyday in the truck on my way to work. Even starting to annoy myself but i'm certainly getting better! I have read almost everything typed on the internet regarding elk biology to elk hunting. I am completely addicted.

Here in Saskatchewan it is a bit different hunt than you fellas are used to. All flat land. A big hill is a couple hundred feet. LOTS of bush and LOTS of lakes and swamps. Some seriously good fishing as well. Good optics aren't a huge deal here considering you can only see ten feet in front of you in the bush. (hunting the forest that is) We have lots of agriculture as well. That is generally where the elk thrive. Big forest connected to lush agriculture crops. In the agriculture department we grow a lot of canola, wheat, barley, oats, peas, alfalfa, etc which the elk absolutely love. In the states and even much of Canada its text book to talk about hunting at elevation. Here in Saskatchewan we hunt the swamp, or at least the people who don't own land. Lots of great hunting in the fields but generally if it is good the farmer hunts it them self or have friends or relatives who hunt it. Elk in our area are swamp lovers. Green stinky chest high nasty swamp. As you can see not quite the norm when you think of elk hunting. I guess I will need to write my own book on hunting Manitoban Elk in the prairie provinces... Anywho just a quick introduction and a thank you to everyone for sharing all their knowledge and experience with others. It has been a huge help. I will be lurking around and hope to contribute now and again.

Ho Brad! I have friends in BC, Ontario and New Brunswick. They are all VERY good friends too. To me it's like there isn't even a border. Nice to chalk one up in Saskatchewan. No doubt your elk hunting is different than down here.

Welcome Brad. Glad you stopped in. I've had some dealings with swamp elk on the wet side of WA state. Crazy things are almost aquatic; ain't right . Again, welcome to "the" elk forum. Pull up a log by the fire, beverage of choice, and keep a watchful eye out on the one they call Swede. He's usually up to some type of shenanigans

Thanks for the warm welcome gents. Funny you mention the aquatic elk in Washington state. If I'm not mistaken there is a very cool video on youtube showing those finned critters navigating the ocean as they travel the coast line. That is the video that opened my eyes as to how aquatic they actually are. They will swim across two lakes, and walk through four swamps to get out to a feeding area. Very hard to wrap your brain around. Can't wait to get some boots on the ground. Spend a lot of time scouting. Thanks again and I will definitely be around for a while.
