Idaho guys help with a tag question

Postby Olydog09 » 05 15, 2014 •  [Post 1]

I am an out of state hunter and purchase the A tag. I was told that I could also pony up for the B tag if I chose. Can anybody confirm this?

Well I just called the game dept and they confirmed I can buy both an A tag and B tag after Aug 31 provided they do not sell out.

Yes, but all of us non resident or resident must pay the out of state price for the 2nd tag, we've purchased the 2nd tag several times! They rarely ever sell out so save your pennies! (grin)

Gary, pull up the on line regs for the gem state. A b tag gives you different dates to hunt with the various weapons than the a tag does. It also varies by zone.

This is NOT written in stone, as mentioned above, it changes from unit to unit . . . but here goes.

A tag - Generally good for ANY elk during archery season for the unit that you bought the tag for. So, during archery season you can shoot bull, cow, spike, calf, spider bull. Once Rifle season rolls around, your tag rules change, now you can only shoot a spike. Once late mz season starts, that same tag is only good for a cow.

B tag - very unit-specific, but more geared towards a rifle hunter that wants to shoot a bull. It's a very fine line on figuring out what a B tag is actually good for, when and where.

Simply put, an A Tag is for Bowhunters & a B tag is for rifle hunters. Yes, there are other short seasons that can come up with either tag but it's Zone/Unit dependant!

that's the short explanation I got from the Idaho warden.... but then you started talking about being able to get a second tag that was a b and then I was confused again...
