Anybody Hunt Wyoming

Looking for a state to hunt in 2015. Anybody have any experience with Wyoming (non wilderness area

not yet. we are going to start building preference points this year. my firefighter buddy has a friend who will show us the ropes in the big horns. but we will need several points before we can go.... I would get on their site and look at which units can be had with 0-1 points, and then look in depth at those units to see if they are worth hunting.

I'm in state so I don't keep up on the NR OTC license info but NR draw has already taken place. the above link (you probably have it) has a "plan your hunt" tool that will tell you all about buying preference points, draw odds, harvest rates, units with OTC tags etc. Good Luck.

Also in state and hunt the Laramie region which has wilderness areas, but a lot of non-wilderness areas as well. Keep in mind the application deadline for non-residents is January 31. Can come up in a hurry..

You can click on any region. Once on the page for that region scroll to the bottom and it will list the units in that area and tell what type of license is required to hunt each species. You'll see the ones that say "General" and those can all be hunted on the General Elk license with no other license or draw permit.

There are TONS of non-wilderness areas where you can hunt.

yeah, my firefighter partner got drawn for the big horns archery. I don't know which unit. his partner has been there before and got a bull. so I will have two ins for when we get out there!!

Good luck to you is all I can say on points. We have been building points for years, and finally put in to draw the Bighorns this year on a Type 1 license. We weren't even close, even though we would have had 100% odds in years past with the points we had. Guess the demand skyrocketed. We decided to save up and look for a guided hunt in a few years and go OTC closer to home until then.
