Montana draw question

When applying for a party NR elk/Deer combo hunt there is no place that ask what Unit we wish to draw 1st, 2nd, 3rd....etc.

Any help would be great...!

In Montana their draw is just for the general hunting areas. There are trophy areas you can apply for but myself I never got one. Make sure you are not hunting a trophy area,the DNR doesn't like that. Every time I hunted Montana I saw at least one game warden or he left notes at our camp while I was gone.
That's the bad thing about hunting out west every state has different rules! Hell some even have a season you have to apply for. I called their wildlife department and they were really helpful.

Hi Kevin. As csr said a Montana license is good statewide in any unit that does not require an additional permit. If in the beginning of the application process you selected both an elk license and an elk permit it will come to a screen where it asks which permit you would like to apply for. That's where you would need to pick a unit or units if you want to hunt in one that requires a permit.

Once you draw your license remember to buy an archery stamp as well. You will not be able to buy that until your license is issued.

Oh yeah one more thing. If you get an elk don't call it in. I did that and the lady laughed at me on the phone! She said only bull moose and sheep do you have to call in. The spring of the next year I always got a call from them asking where and how my hunt went.

Yes, (forgot to add you need to be drawn for the general before your name goes into the drawing for a permit license) you could have purchased one up front if you did it online. That is if you intend to keep your general if not getting the permit. If its your first time you need to provide proof of a tag from your state (tag number) or do their bow hunter safety class. They may offer them online? Others may know more but this is how I handled it. My information is now in the system and don't need to provide it any more.

They make changes every year but it used to be that you couldn't purchase the archery stamp until they had issued your license. Not sure if it's still that way or not.

Okay so I applied for a limited permit, and chose to receive the general license if I am unsuccessful at drawing the permit. During the application process it did ask for my hunter safety number so I entered by South Dakota hunter safety certification number (somehow I found my card from almost 20 years ago). I also found my bowhunter safety certification card from 98' but did not put that number in anywhere. Were they asking for my bowhunter safety certification card when they asked for a hunter safety number? Anyone know how much the archery stamp is?

No they weren't asking for the bowhunter number. Cost of the archery stamp is $10. Good luck in the draw!

the system never asked for our hunter safety card numbers when we applied. IS that normal? You think it will ask us for it after we get our draw results? Or when we go to purchase our $10 bow permit?
