Rolling rocks...for callng tactics

I just watched on You tube a guy taking a rock and chucking it down off a ridge after giving a bugle. Said he was trying to mimic a bull chasing a cow during some rutting activity. He got a bull to respond (bugle) but you never see the bull on film. Not sure if he got the bull to come into bow range or not, but thought I may try this if I'm in some thick cover and just can't get a bull to commit to coming and checking out this man made cow bull mating shindig!

Have you guys ever tried this? What's your craziest idea you've thought to call in elk (besides conventional calls) that has worked?

from reading on here, several guys had talked about using that tactic. I put this tactic into my playlist to use if the opportunity arises. they will chime in...

Like pouring out the contents of your water bottle to simulate an elk urinating, rolling rocks can be used. I have pitched then down the hill and away from where I was located, to try to get an elk to focus on a different location. That said I doubt rolling stones will ever advance beyond the margins as an elk hunt tactic.

ooo... I like that water bottle idea. I wonder if I would be able to keep my composure enough to remember that when a bull is in that close....

I've used rocks, big stick branches & whatever I can toss to give oncoming elk a direction as they come towards our calling. We do this to divert them from coming in a way we do not want them to come, the tossed items can reroute elk towards the noise upping our odds for a broadside shot or just getting them close enough. We do not call once stuff is tossed so as to confuse them which sound they should head for!

I would not consider rolling huge rocks or logs down a steep mountain to bring elk our way since all the ruckus is going away from us & not to us giving us a low odds of a close elk encounter! Elk will focus on spots where last sounds were heard if coming in!
