Where would you focus your efforts?

Postby Tag Soup » 01 30, 2014 •  [Post 1]

Where in this valley with multiple drainages/meadows would you focus your efforts and why? Minimal pressure during archery from what I saw last year. Just curious on what others think and the reasoning behind it. Place an "X" where ya think. The road pictured on the left is only accessible via quad as well. Looking forward to hearing the responses and thanks for the help!

A topo of the area would probably help stir up some responses.

Are you coming in by the road? Assuming so, and assuming the thermals are dropping from top of the picture to the bottom, then I would come in early from bottom of the valley (down by lake) and work my way up/slowly quartering uphill until I reach the snow patches on the ridge line. My guess is you will see elk moving through the open furring the early morning and making their way into cover to bed mid/late morning. Thermals are the key (along with getting up high to glass at times) and the area in the picture is not all too large IMO.

I'll have to find a topo map, the white are actually older dried up water holes. No snow here, from the road its downhill until the dark timber on the opposite side
