so i guess some elk dont follow rules. "there arent supposed to be elk there" ever been told that? i have. so earlier this year i found elk crap where " there arent any elk " according to the couple locals i told it "must have been moose or mule deer crap"

well i set up a cam and mineral rock for 3 or 4 months (most of may june july august) and had a pair of cows come in regularly. thats all tho
two cows on cam every couple weeks. no personal sightings. well today on my way in i jumped 6 elk. first personal sighting of them in this area, where there "arent any elk" even managed to get off a pic with my crappy digi cam. good feeling. my thought is that theyre just now moving into this area and ill start seeing more of them over the next couple years, as long as the wolves dont set up shop here too. heres the pic. http://imgur.com/00d557E

i figure if there are 6 cows here a bull is bound to show up in september huh?

I always thought the Okanogan should have elk, but the orchardists and some others don't want them around. I would like to see the elk move in and get some level of protection.

funny you say that. the timber companies up here (im in the huckleberry range just east of the okanogan) know that although bears damage trees, elk are worse. they mess up all the newly planted young trees when snow melts. so the local timber companies supported the animal rights types to get rid of hound hunting and bear baiting back in 96. they dont want elk at all, and they know the best way to keep their numbers down is to protect bears and lions. and ill also add that in wa you can kill 2 bears a year. you can kill 2 in western, or one in eastern and one in western, but you cant kill two in eastern. but the wdfw website even says that the ne corner of the state has the most bears, so where is the logic? too many people that benefit from high predator populations keeping the elk numbers down. makes me sick. SSS anyone?
