Areas to look at hunting Southern Colorado

Im looking to do my first elk hunt this next season in Southern Colorado Area, and Im looking for a area that I would have the best chance to take a bull. Im not looking for a 300+ class just a nice adult bull, and my freezer full. I do have a 4-wheeler if needed as well as well outfitted with backpacking and camping items. Im in good shape so if long hiking is a question I don't mind getting back into wilderness areas. This would be a resident tag and like I said my first year. Also when I say Southern Colorado im in the Trinidad area. Thanks for any help

Colorado Parks/Wildlife website is a great place to start. Look @ the Southeast region big game hunting guide. Unit 85 has lots of elk, public land and OTC licenses, for instance. The units around the San Luis valley have potential as well. You may get more specific feedback on this forum after doing some research. Good luck, and welcome to the forum!

I was a former Navy Aircrew Survival Equipmentmen "aka" Parachute Rigger, I worked on aircraft chutes and survival gear in the beginning and then I got my Special Operation Support NEC and went to work for Special Boat Teams after that. Ive worked with with all the branches and find good in all of them lol.

I will give the Colorado Wildlife page a look and see what I come up with.

well looking over the maps on Colorado Wildlife I see GWU 80, 70,71 have some good following and large wilderness areas, anyone have any luck up around Lizard Head(70/71) or in GWU 80 Rio Grande Area? Also looking at the 3 seasons; 1st draw only, 2nd OTC, 3 OTC does any of them offer a plus over the other?
