Happy New Years and Progress Reports!

Postby Washington Wapiti » 01 03, 2014 •  [Post 1]

Hope all of your holidays were exceptional and that the new year is getting on well. My year ended with 1 unfilled (shoulda-woulda-coulda been filled) bear tag, two unfilled turkey tags, but I came away with a nice Rosie and a shot, but unrecovered muley doe. After some deliberation I considered that deer tag punched and did not go out for late deer season. It was a low-percentage quartering-to shot at 21 yards, and I should have waited for a better shot or passed. That's what getting too eager will do. So I filled my would-be late season with work trips to South Dakota, and a blurred mix of Christmas shopping, family duties, minor home repair, and all those little things that deplete your time and leave you wondering what you did that took up so much time. The gal and I got out and scouted a new area that's a gated-off, walk-in close to home. We got dumped on and after dealing with too much of that in September, I wasn't about to deal with it again! We headed in early. But it warrants a more in-depth look at some other time. So, those of you that were trying to close the deal in the late season . . . how did you do???
