Drop Camp Needed

I'm looking for a little bit of help to find a good drop camp outfitter and ideas on what units are a little easier to hunt. I go with 3 older guys who had a tough time hiking the steep grades this year in unit 521. We had a terrible experience with our outfitter this year and ended up in a camp with shitty equipment, no propane, firewood, etc. and our camp was 300' from another camp of hunters that has been in that same spot for 14 years - not exactly the story our outfitter portrayed before we signed up for the camp. Since the drop camp is on public land we didn't expect to have the mountain to ourselves but to be camping 300' from another group was quite the surprises (especially since the outfitter knew that this group would be there and when we asked if there were nearby camps he said no).

Here is what we are looking for in a drop camp:

* A quality outfitter.
* 2nd rifle season.
* 4 hunters.
* Prefer an OTC unit where we can also draw cow tags.
* Looking for a unit that is somewhat easier to hike/hunt.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Easy elk country to me is likely private property at lower elevations. The first thing that comes to mind if you want to continue to do it yourself is to look for a ranch to lease for the week where you hunt it on your own & do all of your own cooking etc. If that sounds like something you're interested in I have a friend doing that in CO. They can shoot cows and bulls. I could ask him for some info. Cnelk could probably chime in on that too. If you do that I'd try to get the latest hunt possible because a lot of times the elk move onto properties like that when some weather rolls in. Then treat it with care so you don't give them a reason to head back for the higher country. Good luck.
