Advice needed for 62 year old's 1st elk hunt

I'm planning for a 2014 elk hunt. This will be my 1st and probably only elk hunt. I'm 62 (will be 63 by the hunt) in pretty good shape. I have 2 Colorado preference points but I'm not wed to Colorado. I want a guided hunt preferably 1st rifle. I'm overwhelmed by all of the outfitters on line. I've spoken with 2 brokers but I'm leery. I would love to get advice from folks that "have been there". I realize there is significant cost but some hunts I've seen are outrageous. I Don't know if I'm bettter off with a guaranteed tag (landowners)or putting in for a draw. Please share your experiences.

put in for NM elk with the Mescalero Tribe. it is a draw with them..independent of the State's crazy ass lotto system/hail mary/sell your soul/ draw. rifle hunt will cost you. look it up. i dont want to assume what you can or cannot afford. they flat out have some of the most amazing animal i have ever seen.

strangly enough, for a bunch of native americans running the joint, they dont allow bows and arrows. rifles only. or i would try a cow hunt. very affordable. or a bear, also very affordable.

bull elk..my credit card laughs at me. and my wife yells. hahah..and then she laughs.

If you are into a public land, fair chase hunt, I would contact Indian Summer. He is a knowledgeable and skilled outfitter. Also he advertises on this forum.
