Late Plains Colorado Elk

I am from South Dakota and I am trying to plan a December elk hunt in CO. My job keeps me busy through the fall and I really want to elk hunt so I am hoping that I can figure this all out! The CPW person I talked to said I would be able to buy a late plains rifle elk either sex tag OTC, and that season dates were Dec1-14. I am curious if anyone knows more or where good areas with numbers of elk and descent access. Thanks in advance for any information!

From what I understand, that's a tough tag. Low elk numbers and mostly private land.

I wouldnt bother with the Plains... like mentioned its mostly private
