How to carry your hunting knife

Postby >>>---WW----> » 11 12, 2025 •  [Post 1]

I can remember back when I was probably 10 or 12 years old, I found an old Boy Scout manual. It was from back in the late 40's or early 50's. Anyhow, back when the scouts were really into woodlore and woodcraft. It even had plans on how to build a real tepee and sew up your own moccasins. Both plains and woodland style. But the article that caught my eye the most was how to properly carry a sheath knife.

They suggested running your belt through the belt loop and placing the sheath in your hip pocket at about the 4:30 or 5:00 O'clock position. It makes the knife totally secure and completely out of the way no matter what you are doing. Gee, that was close to 70 years ago and I still pack my knives that way.

I often wonder what ever happened to that old book. I sure would like to have a copy of it today.

I have a pocketknife with me almost everywhere I go. I may leave it at home when I go to church, but that is about it.
Two of my hunting knives stay in my daypack. For the most part I go pretty light when I am out hunting.

I have one on my pack belt, a pocket knife in my coat pocket and one more in my pack with a folding bone saw. Two quick to access in case of emergency

The hunting knife stays in my pack. I have a leatherman that is always in my right front pocket.
