Back in the 1950's, Warren Page printed an article for Field and Stream titled The Rule o Three.

Basically what it amounted to was that if you sighted just about any elk caliber rifle in at 3 inches high at 100 yards, you would be able to hold dead on out to 300 yards and hit an elk or deer right in the heart/lungs area. In other words, the trajectory of the bullet would never be more than 3 inches high and would drop back in to zero right at around 300 yards. Using this method I found that the drop would be about 10-12 inches low at 400.

I always used this method with my 7mm Rem Mag and found it to always be the case. And always got one shot kills with no wounded animals. Now bear in mind that back in the 50's, 40mm scopes were the norm with the radicle usually 1 1/2 inches above the bore of the rifle. So with some of these modern 60mm objective scopes, you may have to do a little fiddling around. So get out on the range and find out what works best for you.

2" high at 200. Very similar to the Rule of 3, except different because it isn't a 3 it is a 2 which if you subtract one from the other you get 1 which if multiplied by 3 is 3 so it kinda is a Rule of 3 if you apply mathematics.

Hmmmm now that I have gone through an algebra lesson ;)

Mine is easy

20, 30, 40, 50

That’s my pins on my bow sight

If I don’t kill a deer during archery I can hunt with a rifle in October….1-2 high at 100 works for me

I got chastise yesterday. Tim commanded me to set the pins at 20,30,40, and 50 and maybe pull the 5th pin and to know exactly where the 20 yard pin shoots at 5 and 10.

Bullets have changed enough You may want to check the manufactures ballistics. And I should follow my own advise
I use to tape on my ballistics for my wifes 30-06 of which ever load I was using.

I knew the drop on my 7mm . When I was loading Partisans: 120, 140 and 160, antelope, deer and elk loads,,, All loads had the same amount of powder the 160 was an inch lower at 400 ,,,,

I dont shoot or load much anymore,,, Im now only sending 160 and 175 out of the 7MM

Samesies for the bow rig!

My 350 legend is zeroed in at 150yds and the 450 bush master at 200yds. Though 97% of the deer I've shot were 20yds or less

If needed. 7SAUM zero is 200. Dialing out past that. 175gr berger. Thinking of loading 180 hybrids and see how they perform.

Western sight is 7 pin (20,30,40,50,60,70). Can dial to 100.
Eastern sight is 3 pin (20,30,40) Can also dial.

On the X at 100 yards. From there I dial in the minutes of angle for longer shots. When hunting it’s dialed in for 200 yards. Still good inside that.

My bow pins are set for 15, 25, and 35 yards. I don’t shoot and live animals beyond that with a bow.
